# Scoring modes

#### Manual Entry

The device is used to simply replace a traditional socreboard and pen. Rider numbers and scores are recorded electronically on the device and can then be emailed to a results team in CSV format.

#### Online Observer

Trial details - number of sections etc. are downloaded from the web. Rider numbers and scores are recorded electronically on the device and are then emailed/uploaded to a webserver for processing. An observer would normally observe a single section - however, it is possible to observer more than one by changing the section number in the Settings.

#### Online Rider

Each rider records their own scores throughout the event. Following the event, these scores are emailed/uploaded to a webserver for processing.

#### Online Group

A group of up to six riders score themselves throughout the trial on a shared device. Following the event, these scores are emailed/uploaded to a webserver for processing.

#### Timing mode

Timekeeper records rider finish times and sequence for Time and Observation trials. Following the event, these times are emailed/uploaded to a webserver for processing.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://trialmonster.gitbook.io/trialmonster/scoremonster/scoring-modes-explained.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
